Ba féile mhór phobail an Chincís i gcónaí i mBaile Mhúirne, lá patrúin le haghaidh Naomh Gobnait agus bhíodh aonach sa Charraig le díoltóirí milseán, bréagán is go leor earraí eile. Bhíodh luascáin agus ‘bumpers’ ann agus ba lá mór spóirt é. Is ar Satharn na Cincíse a tionóladh an chéad Dámhscoil sa scoil náisiúnta i 1925.
Mhair an traidisiún ar feadh na glúinte agus tá cuimhní geala againn go léir air ach de réir a chéile chuaigh sé i léig go dtí, blian amháin ag tús an chéid seo, níor tháinig na díoltóirí agus cuireadh deireadh leis an aonach.
Le cúpla bliain anuas tá imeachtaí á reáchtáil arís i bparóiste Bhaile Mhúirne agus i mbliana beidh féile le leor imeachtaí againn — ina measc ócáid ag an Dámhscoil, beidh siúlóidí, deiseanna chun bia na háite a bhlaiseadh, taispeántas sorcais agus beidh seisiúin ceoil ann chomh maith.
An t-aon foláireamh amháin ná seo: is cuid de thraidisiún Mhúscraí nach féidir leat freastal ar an gCincís mura bhfuil an Chuach cloiste agat. Má tá an chuach cloiste agat, is fiú mura bhfuil!, beidh fáilte romhat!

Whit Sunday has always been a great community festival in Baile Mhúirne — a pattern day in honour of Saint Gobnait — and there would be a fair at the Carraig with sellers of sweets, toys and all manner of other goods. There would be swings and bumper cars, and it was a great day of fun. It was on Whit Saturday that the first Dámhscoil was held in the national school in 1925.
The tradition lasted for generations and we all have fond memories of it, but gradually it fell into decline until, one year at the start of this century, the sellers didn’t come and the fair came to an end.
Over the past couple of years events have been taking place again in the parish of Baile Mhúirne, and this year there will be a full festival with plenty of activities — among them an event at the Dámhscoil, walks, opportunities to taste the local food, a circus performance and music sessions as well.
The one word of warning is this: it is part of Muskerry tradition that you cannot attend the Whit festival unless you have heard the cuckoo. If you have heard the cuckoo — and even if you haven’t — you will be welcomed!
